Gold Krugerrands

by admin on 2011/05/19

Gold Krugerrands are coins that are made in South Africa and were originally a way to sell gold in smaller quantities to the masses.  The coins contain exactly 1 oz of 22 karat gold, which is very popular with gold collectors and investors.  They do however contain a very slight amount of copper which gives them a distinctive color and also makes them more resistant to damage.

For gold investors, the gold Krugerrand is one of the easiest ways to buy actual gold in an affordable manner.  At one time, because of restrictions on individuals owning gold bullion, it was illegal for Americans to own Krugerrands because they were considered gold bullion, rather than a gold coin.  When they were given legal tender status, they were no longer illegal to own.

From a pricing standpoint, Krugerrands generally sell for the price of 1 oz of gold, plus a small premium of a few percent so the price can fluctuate daily based on the price of gold at the time.
